D.D. (PeeWee) Poynor

On December 3, 2016, PeeWee passed away peacefully, from a brief illness. He was born, Dean Dorman, Jr., November 21, 1929, at home in Ranger, TX, to Dean Dorman, Sr. and Nancy Jane Kiser Poynor. PeeWee graduated from Ranger High School, and took a bus that very night to west Texas where he started working the next day. He started his career as a truck driver early and hauled cattle/sheep for Arky Glidewell before settling down in Big Lake, TX.

PeeWee married Darlyne Miller on August 17, 1950; they remained in Big Lake and together raised a family of 4 boys. 

In 1957, due to his strong work ethic and determination, he purchased a single bulldozer that he successfully transformed into a family business known as D.D. Poynor Construction. Over the years, he worked his sons and raised them around the business, where they shared his same values and principles. He also employed several family members and gained life-long friendships with other employees and businessmen around west Texas. He was a one-of-a-kind role model and friend.

Throughout his time, PeeWee served as a Director at Reagan State Bank and was named Businessman of the Year by the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce. He was known throughout West Texas for his hard work, generous spirit, and his love to sit and share stories. He was an avid Cowboys fan and enjoyed many years of season tickets, especially during Tom Landry’s time. He also had a soft heart for animals and brought home many strays, including dogs, cats, goats, deer, rabbits, and even prairie-dogs.

He is rejoicing in heaven with three sons, Buddy, Wayne, and Winn Poynor, his parents, three brothers, Willie, Wesley, and Jack Poynor, and a special nephew, Ricky Poynor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Darlyne; one son, Joe D. Poynor, and wife Debbie, of Breckenridge, TX.; two daughter-in-laws, Letha Poynor, of Big Lake, TX., and Marla Poynor, husband Britt, also of Big Lake, TX.; his beloved grandchildren, J.D. Poynor, wife Carrie of San Angelo, TX., Shane Poynor, wife Sarah, of Breckenridge, TX., Amy Poynor Evans, husband Kelly of Midland, TX., Shawn Poynor, wife Anita, of San Angelo, TX., and Whitney Poynor Brandon, husband Jacob, of San Angelo, TX.; 9 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Franklin of Graham, TX; as well as several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, J.D. Poynor, Shane Poynor, and Shawn Poynor; grandson-in-laws, Kelly Evans and Jacob Brandon; and great grandsons, Zane Poynor and Alex Evans. 

Honorary Pallbearers include: J.L. Allen, Dale Fisher, Norman Guess, Tommy Holt, Mikel Jones, Terry Jones, Everett Miller, Britt Poynor, Bill Schneemann, Wayne Smith, CR Sproul, and John Wilha.

A viewing will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Big Lake. Directly following, at 2:00 pm, will be a memorial service to celebrate and honor his life.

Elmer Joe Johnson

Elmer Joe Johnson, a long-time resident of Big Lake, made his journey home to Heaven on January 3, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. 
 
He was born on August 3, 1933 in Hunt County, Texas to Elmer Wesley and Pauline Johnson.  His grandparents, Babe and Nancy Dora Johnson, were significant influences in his life as he spent the majority of his time in their care.
 
Joe served our Country in the US Army as a mechanic and was honorably discharged in April, 1955, due to the tragic and sudden death of his grandfather and Joe’s subsequent need to run the family farm for his grandmother. 
 
He wore many hats in his lifetime…farmer, mechanic, musician, car collector, animal whisperer and spent over 50 years of his life in a career he loved in the oilfields of West Texas.  
 
Most important, however, was the role he played as caregiver to many people in his lifetime, especially to his bride, Reta Bell, as she also suffered through Alzheimer’s Disease.  
 
He loved her and cared for her faithfully even while he also began his own journey with the same disease.  
 
Joe was preceded in death by Reta and is survived by three children: Scarlett, Sonny and Tracie (Troy).  
 
Also, left behind are 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  
 
On Friday, January 6, there will be a visitation at 10:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of his life at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Big Lake, Texas.

Betty Turner

Betty went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 9, 2017 in Big Lake, Texas.

She was born as Grace Elizabeth Caffall in Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas on August 5, 1926 to the late, James M. and Pauline Grace Early Caffall.

Betty and her sister, Martha, were born and grew up in Port Arthur, where they attended the local Port Arthur schools and graduated in May of 1945 from Thomas Jefferson High School. During high school, she was in the ensemble Melody Maids playing the flute, where she was a member of the Maroon and Gold Band. Also in May of 1945, Betty was inducted as an officer in the Masonic Order of Rainbow Girls as Secretary. She began her post- high school education in Lamar College in Beaumont, Texas. Two years later she transferred to Sam Houston State in Huntsville, and graduated in June of 1949 with her degree in teaching. During her years at Sam Houston State, she was active in Kappa Pi, Band, Orchestra, A.C.E. and the Betty Club ( A club for women named Betty).

On June 9, 1951, Grace Elizabeth Caffall married James B. Turner in Port Arthur. Between 1952-1954, Betty taught in Marque, Texas ISD and by January of 1954, Betty and James moved to the Turner Ranch, north of Best, Texas. From 1954-1981, she taught school in Reagan County, Texas elementary system before retiring in 1981. In total, Betty taught school for 30 years, 27 of them being in Big Lake. Since her retirement, she had lived in Big Lake and been involved and busy with Happy Home Makers, Garden Club, The Masonic Order of the Eastern Star, Trail Blazers, and the First United Methodist Church, helping local kids with reading both in school and at her home, cross stitch, crocheting, and painting.

Flower and vegetable gardening, and traveling both by motorhome and tour groups were favorite pastimes. In 1996, Betty was honored with her 50 year certification of membership with the Grand Chapter of Texas of the Order of the Eastern Star and in 2001 she became an endowed member.

The love of Betty's life, her husband, James Belcher Turner, passed away in 1988, after 37 years of marriage. Over the years, she has remained in touch with all the Turner and Caffall families. To all her nephews and nieces, she is known affectionately as "Aunt Betty".

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and nephews, Bob Turner and Richard Martin.

Survivors include her sister, Martha (Jim) Anderson; nephews, James (Donna)Turner, Bill (Carol) Turner, Charles (Edith) Turner, Tim (Marian) Turner, Scott (Pam) Anderson, and Sid (Amy) Anderson; nieces, Meg (Trey) Brown, Mildred (Dan) Dubbs, Susan (Jack) Thorn, and Beth Martin; 14 great nephews; 8 great nieces; 17 great great nephews; 9 great great nieces; and one more on the way, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be a time of visitation from 10:00am - 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Big Lake just prior to funeral services that will be held at 1:30pm with Rev. Gerald Bastin officiating. Interment will follow in the Stiles Cemetery, Big Lake. Great nephews will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Reagan Garden Club's Aviary Fund at PO Box 984, Big Lake, Texas 76932 or to the FUMC at PO Box 894, Big Lake, Texas 76932 in Betty's honor. Charlotte Eleene Webb Corbell Lear

Charlotte was welcomed into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ on June 22, 2016.
 
Charlotte was born on June 25, 1919 to Jesse Thomas Webb, Sr. (Jess) and Willia Mabel Cartwright Webb in Van Alstyne, Texas.  
 
Two (2) years later she was blessed with a little brother, Jesse Thomas Webb, Jr. (JT).  
 
When Charlotte was approximately 6 years old, the family moved to Big Lake, Texas.  
 
Charlotte spent most of her life in Big Lake which is where she met her first husband Lewis Albert Corbell, Jr.  
 
She and L. A. were blessed with a son, Terry Richard Corbell. L. A. Corbell died in a boating accident in June 1946.  
 
Charlotte thereafter married Warner Calvin Lear July 1948. 
 
Born to Charlotte and Warner were Timothy Calvin Lear and twin boys Harry Foster Lear and Kye Burton Lear.  
 
Warner died in November 1981.  
 
Charlotte was a wife, mom, cookie maker, Boy Scout leader, school and insurance secretary and deputy sheriff, but most of all she prized her role as a mother more than anything.  
 
She was most proud of her four (4) boys and she always made them her number one (1) priority.  
 
When her grandchildren came along she made them the center of her attention and her love.  
 
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her brother& sister-in-law, J. T. & Lois Webb, her two (2) husbands and her sister’s-in-law Edith Pettit and Iva Loftin.  
 
She is survived by her four (4) sons (Terry and wife Jackie Corbell, Tim and wife Linda Lear, Dr. Kye B. Lear & Harry F. Lear), a special niece Jane Webb Braswell and her husband Mike Braswell, six (6) grandchildren, six (6) great grandchildren and many cousins, nephews and nieces.   
 
Her family would like to express their sincere thanks for the care she received over the past many years from Dr. Linton, the nurses, personnel and friends at Carillon House in Lubbock, Texas and Hospice of Lubbock, Texas.  
 
Gravesite services, under the direction of Robert Massey Funeral Home, will be at 1:30 PM, Monday June 27, 2016 at Glen Rest Cemetery, Big Lake Texas with Pastor Buddy Helms officiating.

Iva Jean Davis

Iva Jean Davis, 84, of Big Lake, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 in Big Lake. 
 
She was born to the late, Herman H. and Gladys Ellen Light Calley on February 27, 1932 in San Saba County, Texas. 
 
She married George Weldon Davis on November 20, 1948. They were married 56 years at the time of his death in 2004
 
Together they owned and operated The Davis Company for over 30 years in Big Lake. Iva Jean was a member of the Church of Christ, Big Lake. 
 
She took great pleasure in attending and participating in her church throughout her lifetime. Spending time visiting with family and friends was her favorite pastime. She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
 
 Iva Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Vernelle Evelyn Clyburn.
 
Survivors include her brother, Dale Wade Calley and his wife, Adelia; nieces and nephews, W.C. Clyburn, III and his wife, Debbie, Debra Dee Atkerson and her husband, Jim, Michael Calley and his wife, Yolanda, Linda Robinson and her husband, James,  Catherine Nelson, Kendall Calley and his wife, Connie, and Mark Calley; great nieces and nephews, W.C., IV., Amy, Sean, Nathan, Alex, Jonathan, Brian, Erin, Heather, Michelle, Michael, and Kendra; as well as many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 2, 2016 in the Bethel Baptist Church, Big Lake. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories and photos as well as sign the online guestbook at www.johnsons-funeralhome.com.

Andy Glasscock of Midland, TX passed away on July 10, 2016.  Viewing will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday, July 15, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland.  Graveside services will be held on July 16, 2016 in Big Lake, TX at 10:00 am.
 
Andy was born on September 24, 1951 to parents Bill and Elizabeth Glasscock of Big Lake, TX.  Andy earned his master’s degree in police administration while attending Sul Ross State University and Angelo State University.  He moved from Big Lake to Midland to pursue a career in law enforcement. He was also a founding member of the Greenwood volunteer fire department.  He enjoyed being on the lake, as well as snow skiing and family vacations.  He also became an EOD technician for MPD and volunteered with the commemorative air force for the annual airshow as a pyrotechnic.
 
He is survived by his four children; son Michael and his wife Tasha of Leander, TX and their children Hunter, Kayleigh, and Kynleigh, daughter Jennifer and her husband Austin of Midland, TX and their children Travis, Cooper, Braxton and Greyson, son David and his wife Jessica of Midland, TX and their son Landon, and daughter Cassie of Tennessee and her children Brylee and Brysen.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Elizabeth Glasscock.

Claudine Nixon Dodd, age 95 passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 10, 2016 at the Texas Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington, Texas.  Claudine was born on February 14, 1922 in Eldorado, Oklahoma to Floyd and Jessie (Jones) Nixon.
 
Claudine is survived by her children, Lynn Jay Dodd of Burleson, Texas, Sammy Dodd and his wife, Angela of Big Lake, Texas, Kay Kerneck and Phyliss Evans both of Phoenix, Arizona.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, brother, Elton Nixon of Poway, California, sisters, Floy Kelly of the Woodlands, Texas, and Kay Sutton of Midland, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
 
Claudine was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Dodd, her parents Floyd and Jessie Nixon, daughter-in-law Susie Dodd and son-in-law Bill Evans.
 
Claudine was a member of the Buchanan West Baptist Church in Buchanan Dam, Texas where she and Elmer made their home after retiring. She was also a member of Eastern Star.
 
Claudine spent many years traveling the United States with Elmer.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and her favorite hobby was quilting. “Grannie” loved making quilts for all her grands, family members and friends.
 
Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 1:00 o’clock P.M. at the Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton, Texas. An online register may be found at www.PutnamCares.com.

Fabian Reyes, 25 of Big Lake, past away peacefully Saturday, October 15, 2016, in the comfort of his beloved home. Born April 7, 1991 in San Angelo Tx to Greta Galarza and Jesse Reyes both of Big Lake TX. Fabian was a husband, father, son, brother, and an amazing friend. He was so full of life always making jokes and most of all just trying to enjoy the life he was given.
He was proceded in death by his Uncle Ruben Castillo Jr.
Fabian leaves behind his wife Abigail Deleon; daughter Adalyn Reyes; son Bentley Reyes; Godson Jacob Medrano all of Big Lake, sisters Nikki Galarza and nephew Aiden Flores of California, Savannah Ramirez of Big Lake, Grandparents Mr and Mrs. Ruben Castillo Sr,  Mr and Mrs Rey Reyes and Great Grandfather Manuel Rodriguez Step-Father Belen Ramirez all of Big Lake, also his Unlces, Aunts, in laws ,brothers/sister in law and many cousins and his beloved K-9 companion Diamond.
The family will received visitors Tuesday October 18 2016 at Gutierrez Funeral Home off Knickerbocker Road in San Angelo TX from 3:00 till 9:30 Services were Wednesday, October 19,2016 at, Bethal Baptist Church in Big Lake at 9:30 am with Pastor Leslie Davidson.

Gloria Mae Ivey Pool passed away Friday, October 7, 2016. 
Gloria was born to Chester Hiram Ivey and Lillian Opal Bledsoe Ivey on December 22, 1936 in San Angelo, TX. 
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband David Charles Pool Jr., and by her parents Chester and Opal Ivey. 
Gloria, graduated from High School in Marfa, TX in 1954. 
She was an outstanding student graduating at the top of the class. 
Gloria was a superb athlete participating in many sports. 
She was a proud Marfa Shorthorn High School Cheerleader and drum major. 
After graduation she attended Sul Ross University and was a member of a sorority. 
While attending college she worked as a telephone operator and meet David Charles Pool Jr. They married January 28, 1956. 
After marriage she worked as a secretary and helped David on the ranches where they lived. 
Gloria sewed, knitted, played the piano, and dabbled in art. 
Gloria was successful in anything she attempted. 
Gloria loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and working with her animals. 
Gloria hauled her 3 children hundreds of miles, while they participated in rodeos. 
One of Gloria's later hobbies was crossword puzzles. She was an extreme enthusiast of these puzzles. 
Gloria is survived by her children Ivie Avery, David Pool, Jay Pool. 5 grandchildren, Justin Avery, Wesley Avery, Shiloh Pool, Garrett Pool, and Chance Pool. Five great grand children one sister Diana Sue Ivey Knight, one uncle Aubrey Ray Ivey. Life long best friends Tomi Benge, Darlene Freeman, Billie Lou Corder, Nancy Keuthan and Donna Smith.

Eugene "Gene" Jackson

Eugene “Gene” Jackson Blake, 85, of Big Lake went to be with the Lord and the love of his life Margie Sunday, November 13, 2016 in Reagan County Care Center. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at First Baptist Church in Big Lake. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with burial following in Glen Rest Cemetery. 

Mr. Blake was born May, 14, 1931 in Cherry Valley, Arkansas to George Milam Blake, Sr. and Bernice Ethel Barton Blake. 

He married Margie Faye Byrd August 20, 1955 in Midland.  Eugene spent his entire working career in the West Texas oilfields. 

He spent his retirement working on small engine repair and enjoyed doing woodworking. 

He was a true West Texas gentleman who never met a person he didn’t like. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, one sister, and one great granddaughter. 

Survivors include three sons, Randy Blake and wife Rita of Big Lake, Ronnie Blake of Odessa, Gary Blake of Big Lake, one daughter Sherry Rackley and husband Mark of Midland, five brothers, Velton Blake, Lloyd Blake, Buddy Blake, Larry Blake and Murrill Blake, two sisters, Agnes Geralds and Dorothy Bowman, four grandsons, and five great grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of San Angelo, (HOSA) or Reagan County Care Center.

She was born as Grace Elizabeth Caffall in Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas on August 5, 1926 to the late, James M. and Pauline Grace Early Caffall.

Betty and her sister, Martha, were born and grew up in Port Arthur, where they attended the local Port Arthur schools and graduated in May of 1945 from Thomas Jefferson High School. During high school, she was in the ensemble Melody Maids playing the flute, where she was a member of the Maroon and Gold Band. Also in May of 1945, Betty was inducted as an officer in the Masonic Order of Rainbow Girls as Secretary. She began her post- high school education in Lamar College in Beaumont, Texas. Two years later she transferred to Sam Houston State in Huntsville, and graduated in June of 1949 with her degree in teaching. During her years at Sam Houston State, she was active in Kappa Pi, Band, Orchestra, A.C.E. and the Betty Club ( A club for women named Betty).

On June 9, 1951, Grace Elizabeth Caffall married James B. Turner in Port Arthur. Between 1952-1954, Betty taught in Marque, Texas ISD and by January of 1954, Betty and James moved to the Turner Ranch, north of Best, Texas. From 1954-1981, she taught school in Reagan County, Texas elementary system before retiring in 1981. In total, Betty taught school for 30 years, 27 of them being in Big Lake. Since her retirement, she had lived in Big Lake and been involved and busy with Happy Home Makers, Garden Club, The Masonic Order of the Eastern Star, Trail Blazers, and the First United Methodist Church, helping local kids with reading both in school and at her home, cross stitch, crocheting, and painting.

Flower and vegetable gardening, and traveling both by motorhome and tour groups were favorite pastimes. In 1996, Betty was honored with her 50 year certification of membership with the Grand Chapter of Texas of the Order of the Eastern Star and in 2001 she became an endowed member.

The love of Betty's life, her husband, James Belcher Turner, passed away in 1988, after 37 years of marriage. Over the years, she has remained in touch with all the Turner and Caffall families. To all her nephews and nieces, she is known affectionately as "Aunt Betty".

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and nephews, Bob Turner and Richard Martin.

Survivors include her sister, Martha (Jim) Anderson; nephews, James (Donna)Turner, Bill (Carol) Turner, Charles (Edith) Turner, Tim (Marian) Turner, Scott (Pam) Anderson, and Sid (Amy) Anderson; nieces, Meg (Trey) Brown, Mildred (Dan) Dubbs, Susan (Jack) Thorn, and Beth Martin; 14 great nephews; 8 great nieces; 17 great great nephews; 9 great great nieces; and one more on the way, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be a time of visitation from 10:00am - 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Big Lake just prior to funeral services that will be held at 1:30pm with Rev. Gerald Bastin officiating. Interment will follow in the Stiles Cemetery, Big Lake. Great nephews will serve as pallbearers. On March 28, 2017 Joe Roy Collins, 84, of Big Lake, TX went to be with his Heavenly Father and his beloved wife Mina Ruth and son Buster in Heaven.

He was born in Mertzon, TX on June 16, 1932 to Roy and Hazel Collins. He is preceded in death by his parents, his eldest son Joe Ralph "Buster" Collins, and his only sibling, Ethel Irene Collins Everett Yearger. Joe Roy graduated from Barnhart ISD, and attended Sul Ross State University, and then San Angelo College where he enjoyed his days as "CocoMo the Rodeo Clown" until he met his bride. He married Mina Ruth Jennings on February 15, 1953 and together they had four sons, Joe Ralph "Buster," Eddie Wayne, Kenneth Lee "Red", and David Brian "Spaz." He worked most of his years with both El Paso Natural Gas and Western Gas Resources. In his early days he served as Constable of Irion County Sheriff's Office, and also spent several years on the Big Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He was a certified Life Scout and enjoyed running Diamond C Feed & Supply in Big Lake in his later years.

Joe is survived by three sons, Eddie Wayne and wife Jenny of Houston, Kenneth Lee and wife Robin of Big Lake, and David Brian and wife Patti of Mertzon; three grandsons, Ian and wife Mandie of Katy, Grayson of Katy, and Andy Coates of Mertzon; six granddaughters, Kimberly of St. Petersburg, FL, Kara of Midland, Katy and husband Jake Ward of San Angelo, Mindy and husband Will Seahorn of Mertzon, Hannah of Katy, and Kim and Randy Stinson of Washington; six great-grandchildren; and multiple neices and nephews.

Pallbearers will include Ian Collins, Andy Coates, Joel Denham, Ray Denham, Jake Ward, and Billy Millsap. Honorary pallbearers include Grayson Collins, Schraeder Seahorn, Luke Seahorn, and Will Seahorn.

Throughout his years, Joe Roy planted love in the hearts of each of those closest to him and was sure to nurture that love every chance he got. He cared deeply for his family, friends, and those who cared so diligently for him toward the end of his life. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Reagan County Care Center by having memorials sent to Care Friends of the care center.

Visitation will be 5-8 PM on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo, TX. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 29, 2017 at Rest Haven Cemetery of Barnhart, TX with Reverend Larry A. Young officiating. Hermie B. Dittman, 77, just two weeks shy of 78, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 in Big Lake.  She was born August 5, 1939 in Eldorado, Texas to Buren America and Zella Ophelia (Mercer) Whitten.  She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1957 and married the love of her life Don Dittman in 1972.  Hermie was a loving mother and homemaker, she received 1st place in several quilting contests as well as sang in Christmas and Easter Cantatas.  She was a member of the church choir, Happy Homemakers and the Dairy Queen bunch.  Hermie was a Sunday school teacher for 30 + years at First Baptist Church in Big Lake.  She loved sewing, quilting, embroidery and making blankets for others.  Hermie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jonnie Mormon; and nephews, John Mormon and Tony Whitten.  Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don Dittman; son, Bob Davis and wife Gayla of Big Lake; daughter, Robin Russell and husband, Marty of Big Lake; daughter, Amber Stephenson and husband Clint of Liberty Hill; grandchildren, Parker Russell, Hayden Russell, Tucker Stephenson and Payton Stephenson; brothers, B.A. (Ike) Whitten and wife Donna, Tom Whitten and wife Linda and W.W.  Juan Levario, Jr., 68, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 in Midland, Texas.  He was born to the late, Juan Levario, Sr.  and Maria Ramirez Levario on March 19, 1949 in Big Lake, Texas. Juan married Julia Ybarra on August 26, 1967 in Big Lake. He retired as a supervisor and lead operator after over 30 years with Marathon Oil. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Midland.  Juan was an avid sports-fan, especially of baseball and the NY Yankees. He found joy in the simple things, such as taking walks with his beloved, Chico. Above all, Juan was a family man, in every sense of the phrase. His family was always a priority throughout his lifetime. His grandchildren were the love of his life.  He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Juan was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Eliseo Levario, Jimmy Levario, Rita Levario Ramirez, and Janie Levario Lejia.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Julia Ybarra Levario; daughter, Laura Levario; son, Johnny Levario and his wife, Aymee; grandchildren, John Thomas Levario, Samantha Levario Futrell and her husband, Daniel, Joshua Blake Levario, and Jordyn Nicole Levario; siblings, Pablo Levario, Luis Levario, Roy Levario, Eva Levario Siller, and Lisa Levario Martin; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 in the Johnson’s Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 in the St. Margaret of Cortana Catholic Church in Big Lake. Interment will follow in the Glen Rest Cemetery, Big Lake. Lori Ann Hester, 45, of Big Lake, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 29, 2017 in San Angelo. She was born to Robert John and Brenda Jean Dillard Wellman on January 4, 1972 in San Angelo. Lori married Eric Hester on September 21, 1996 in Stiles, Texas. She worked as a secretary with Texas SWD and Mudhouse Candles. Lori was bigger than life and the “rock” that took care of everyone and everything. She was a fighter and a cancer survivor. She was ready to hit the Texas highways at a moment’s notice, especially to see a Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers game. Lori enjoyed crafts of all kinds, social media, and playing games of any kind, especially a good tennis match. Dylan was her pride and joy and she worked to keep him in line. Lori was known to be able to cook anything. She left a lasting mark on those who she came in contact with her and will be loved long beyond her years as she is remembered in the hearts of those who love her.
Survivors include her husband of almost 21 years, Eric Hester; son, Dylan Hester; step daughter, Miranda Barnes and her husband, Justin; grandchildren, Brooklyn and Bryleigh; parents, Robert and Brenda Wellman; brother, John Bob Wellman; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
There will be a time of visitation held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 in the Bethel Baptist Church of Big Lake. Hugh Cheyenne “Pug” Hester, of Big Lake, TX passed away peacefully and is in the arms of his Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 23, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 70.

Pug is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Cowin Hester of Big Lake, TX; and their four children, Ronnie Hester and his wife Amy, their three children, Joe Paul Sanchez, Alyssa Sanchez and Zachary Hester; Donnie Hester and his wife Tracey, their three children, Ivy Denham and her husband Thomas, Jacob Hester and Jordan Hester; Lee Ann Rollwitz and her husband Brennan, their four children, Nathaniel Gallion and his wife Brittany, Anthony Rollwitz and his wife Kimberley, Richard Rollwitz and Kaycee Rollwitz; Kay Lynn Hernandez and her husband Joey, their four children, CJ Hernandez and his wife Anna, Jordan Mendoza and her husband Stacey, Lezlee Doege, Sydney Hernandez and Seth Hernandez. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Spivey and her husband Larry; his brother, James Hester; his aunt, Lahoma Jacobs; and four great grandchildren, Benjamin Denham, Rylan Seth, Aubrey Sanchez and Jaiden Sanchez.

Pug was born on August 11, 1947 in Coleman, TX to Hugh and Winnie Hester. He was adored by all who knew him. He had a witty sense of humor and never met a stranger. He was the pillar of the family. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, participate in stock shows and took an interest in everything that they did. Pug was recently awarded the Big Lake Pioneer of the Year award. He loved God and he loved his family. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

Visitation will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in Big Lake, TX on August 25, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in Big Lake, TX on August 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. Brother Buddy Helms will officiate with interment to follow at Glen Rest Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pug’s life.

Juan “Chito” De La Rosa passed away suddenly on August 31, 2017 due to injuries sustained in an oilfield accident.
He will be dearly missed. Chito loved spending time with his family and friends.
He was always there to lend a helping hand, lending his many talents to all.
He was a welder, mechanic, builder and was always willing to try or learn new trades.
He loved his children dearly and spent all of his spare time with them.
Whenever he could, he took the time to teach his nieces and nephews the importance of hard work and responsibility.
Chito dearly loved his parents and was known for the enormous respect that he showed to them. Although he was quiet natured, he was quick to share a laugh and spread joy to all around him.
He loved horse racing and baseball and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He is survived by his sons: Osbaldo “Aaron” DeLaRosa, Diego Gael DeLaRosa, his parents: Reginaldo and Maria DeLaRosa, his sister, Norma Hernandez, and her husband, Santos, his brothers: Reginaldo DeLaRosa, Jr. and his wife, Vanessa, Joel DeLaRosa and Rolando DeLaRosa and his wife, Berenisse, his grandfather: Juan Villarreal, Sr. and his grandmother: Maria DeLaRosa, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother: Petra Villarreal and his paternal grandfather: Vicente DeLaRosa.
Visitation was Monday, September 4 ,2017, at the Apostolic Church in Big Lake from.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at the Apostolic Church, with burial following at Glen Rest Cemetery.

HOWARD LEWIS YOUNG

Howard Lewis Young, age 70, of Winnsboro, formerly of Big Lake and San Saba, passed away in the mid-afternoon hours of Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison, with his beloved family by his side.  Howard was born on October 20, 1946 in Big Lake, Texas to the late Elbert and Ruth Burditt Young.  Following high school, Howard began his life dedicated to his work.  He was a skilled carpenter and hard working hand in the oil field where he earned his way to pumper. 

Howard was a faithful Christian who spent his life in Big Lake, San Saba and eventually Winnsboro.  In his free time, Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing and could deliver the best jokes.  He also enjoyed cooking but his real love and favorite pass time was reading books.  He had a love for reading that very few possess in today’s world.  Howard was particularly worried with making sure his books were always returned to the library on time and then renting the latest arrival.  Those who knew

Howard best will remember him as a hard-working, gentle man who cared deeply about a stranger and truly loved his children and grandchildren.

Howard is survived by one son, Vance Young, and wife Angie, of Winnsboro; two daughters, Heather Jones, and husband Chris, of Durant, Oklahoma and Traci MacIsaac, and husband Cameron, of Argyle; grandchildren, Matt MacIsaac, Megan MacIsaac, Daniel MacIsaac, Linzey Jones, Jacob Blake Jones, Morgan Young, and Ireland Young; one brother, Wade Young, and wife Destrie, of Tow, Texas; and two sisters, Connie Ivy of Marble Falls, Texas and Levon Hill of Granite Shoals, Texas; and by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and very special friends.

Howard was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Young, and one sister, Helen Dale.

Graveside services were held at Noon, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Macon Cemetery with Gary Hampton officiating.  Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Dale, Aaron Ivy, Blake Jones, Chris Jones, John Stone, Justin Stone, Jaron Young, Mark Young, Michael Young, Richard Young, Vance Young, and Wade Young.  Memorial services followed at 2M Outfitters Ranch.
